Spotlight on Seniors Interview with Lynn Norgang, RN

Did you know that Assisted Living is a regulated Health and Housing service? As you look at various communities, it is good to understand how senior care professionals assess new potential residents. When you are shopping for a residential community, you’ll want to ask questions about how they define Levels of Care, which is based on Activities of Daily Living. Each community has its own standards. This is why you want to understand Activities of Daily living, and how each community defines and charges for Levels of Care. This “Spotlight on Seniors” interview with Executive Director Lynn Norgang, RN will help you understand how it works.

Steve Raymond Interview with Peter Baker of the Alzheimer’s Association

An interesting fact that I did not know is that aside from the governments of the United States and China, the Alzheimer’s Association is the third largest funder of research in Alzheimer’s disease. I greatly enjoyed this interview with Peter, who is a Licensed Medical Social Worker and the Helpline Director for the Alzheimer’s Association in Maine.

A fantastic Fall event held throughout the country by the Alzheimer’s Association is the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s.” It is tremendous family fun and supports a cause that is vital to our nation and our younger generations… finding effective treatments and a cure for Alzheimer’s. There are walks in September and October in Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, Calais, Fort Kent, Lewiston, Portland and York Beach. More Information and Registration Here—>

Spotlight on Seniors: An Overview of Elder Law with Attorneys Chip Griffin and Melissa Holmes Whitt

In this episode of Spotlight on Seniors, attorneys Chip Griffin and Melissa Holmes Whitt of the Griffin Law Offices in Boothbay Harbor discuss many aspects of Elder Law. We deliberately did not go too deeply into any one subject. We covered estate planning, real estate planning, cottage succession planning, estate administration and probate, life planning in elder years, transferring assets to heirs, elder fraud and abuse, and several other areas.

I also want to say from personal knowledge… Chip is a very dedicated and thoughtful community leader who contributes greatly to the Boothbay Harbor region to the benefit of all seniors through his involvement with the Rotary Club and the ElderCare Forum. It was really delightful conversing with Chip and Melissa… take out your notepad… they share a great deal of valuable information in this interview.

The Frances Perkins Center in Damariscotta: Celebrating an Unsung Maine Heroine Who Helped Create a Robust Middle Class America

The 7th Annual Frances Perkins Center Garden Party and awards ceremony will take place on Friday August 14, 2015, celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Social Security. The party has been a popular event in past years, and will take place at the National Historic Landmark designated home of Frances Perkins in Newcastle, Maine. I greatly enjoyed this interview with Mike Chaney, the Executive Director of the Frances Perkins Center on Main Street in Damariscotta. The Center carries on the legacy and spirit of Frances Perkins, a Damariscotta native who served on the cabinet of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and helped transform our country, leaving the depression era behind by developing programs that led to the creation of a robust middle class of workers and professionals.
