Memory Loss Education and Support Series

Sharing is caring!

The challenges faced by caregivers of people with Cognitive Impairment and Dementia can feel
overwhelming and without answer.  However, with education and support, a caregiver can learn a degree
of mastery that will help build resilience and sustain them in a healthy caregiver role over the long-term.
The Lincoln Home is hosting a 6-week series of 90-minute conversations that will provide practical solutions and new insights.  Each week will begin with an educational piece, and then a group conversation to discuss the current day-to-day issues of the group participants.

Topics covered may include learning skillful communications using the “Best Friends Approach” ™ to make life easier for you and for your loved one with dementia; behavioral challenges that are a result of the disease, and using “Best Friends” ™
communication skills in difficult situations; managing the shifting roles and responsibilities between marital partners or parents and adult children; the progression of the disease, and how the caregiver role evolves over time; the role of Power of Attorney, and understanding Advance Directives; how to address driving safety and when driving privileges should stop; physical safety when moving or transferring your loved one.

This education and support series is completely confidential. Come with your questions and concerns Wednesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb. 5 & 12 from 4:00 – 5:30pm at The Lincoln Home, 22 River Road, Newcastle. Call to RSVP:  Steve Raymond, 207-563-3350 or email, steve@lincoln-home.org.
