explore Midcoast Maine

From our home on the Damariscotta River

There is so much to explore from our coastal town of Newcastle, Maine on the shores of the Damariscotta River. A short drive offers lighthouses and rocky shores, beautiful beaches, islands, coastal villages, lakes, mountains and nature preserves.

Maine’s food scene offers choices of cuisine as endless as the shoreline…farm-to-table, seafood, barbecue, fine dining and comfort food. Craft breweries and local vineyards are plentiful and offer special tours and tastings.

The Midcoast is rooted in history. Learn more at Maine State Museum, Maine Maritime Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, to name a few.

Maine is known for fall fairs and summer festivals. Damariscotta’s now infamous Pumpkinfest is in walking distance from our home. Maine State Theatre in Brunswick, or Lincoln Theatre in nearby Damariscotta offer live performances, music and movies.

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located on nearly 300 acres of tidal shore near Boothbay Harbor, offers activities for all ages. Hike in the woods, explore acres of cultivated gardens, volunteer or take a class.

Get on the water…kayaks, sailboats, schooners, charter boats, whale watches.

Take a ferry to explore on of our numerous islands…Bailey, Orrs, Monhegan, Matinicus, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Casco Bay Islands.

Portland is an hour south, Camden and Rockland are a half hour north. Bar Harbor is two and a half hours Downeast.

Hike, bike, fish, hunt…woods, trails, streams and lakes. From oceanside to mountainside, Maine hosts more than 150 golf courses from 9 to 18 holes.

Maine is the oldest state in the nation and Lincoln County is home to the most seniors, by population, in the state. Because of that, there are numerous organizations and opportunities for seniors to become involved, socially, or through volunteering.

Come join us for a season, or live with us year round.
